Mera Peak & Island Peak via Amphu Lapcha Pass Climbing Introduction — Best Route Trek Nepal

This combined expedition links two of Nepal’s most popular climbing peaks—Mera Peak (6,440 m) and Island Peak (6,189 m)—through the challenging Amphu Lapcha Pass, which connects the Makalu and Everest regions as part of the Great Himalaya Trail.

The journey is designed for experienced climbers seeking a true high-altitude adventure. The Amphu Lapcha Pass is technical and demanding, making this itinerary suitable only for those with prior climbing experience and strong fitness.

The expedition begins south of Lukla, away from the busy Everest Base Camp trail, as you enter the remote Hinku Valley. Mera Peak is climbed first, allowing time for gradual acclimatization and skill development before attempting more technical terrain.

From Mera Peak Base Camp (around 5,300 m) and High Camp (around 5,800 m), climbers ascend to the summit, where breathtaking views of Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu reward the effort.

After the Mera summit, the route continues over the Amphu Lapcha Pass into the Everest region via Chukung. This high and technical crossing is one of the most challenging sections of the entire journey.

Once in the Everest region, the expedition continues with the ascent of Island Peak, adding another iconic Himalayan summit to the experience.

From here, climbers may either descend toward Lukla or extend the journey to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar before returning via the classic Khumbu route through Tengboche and Namche Bazaar.

With Best Route Trek Nepal, this expedition is supported by highly experienced Sherpa guides, a strong safety system, and a carefully structured acclimatization plan. It is best undertaken in the spring (April–May) or autumn (October–November) seasons.
