This high-altitude expedition to Baruntse (7,129 m) follows a remote and adventurous route through the Hinku Valley, offering one of Nepal’s most rewarding 7,000-meter climbing experiences. Surrounded by Everest, Makalu, and Lhotse, Baruntse is a perfect objective for experienced climbers aiming to step up toward 8,000-meter expeditions.
The journey begins with a scenic flight to Lukla, followed by a less-traveled trail heading south of the main Everest route into the wild and isolated Hinku Valley. The approach ensures gradual acclimatization while passing through quiet alpine landscapes, glaciers, and traditional high-altitude settlements.
The trek continues through Zatrwa La Pass (4,600 m), entering the remote wilderness of the Hinku region. From there, the route progresses through Thuli Kharka, Kothe, Thangnak, and Khare, allowing steady acclimatization before reaching Baruntse Base Camp (around 5,300 m).
From Base Camp, climbers establish High Camp I (around 6,000 m) and High Camp II (around 6,300 m) on the Lower Barun Glacier. This section involves technical glacier travel, fixed rope climbing, and careful altitude progression under expert Sherpa guidance.
The summit push of Baruntse is a demanding ascent along exposed ridgelines, typically taking 7–10 hours. From the top, climbers are rewarded with breathtaking views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and the surrounding Himalayan giants.
After a successful summit, the expedition retraces its steps back through the Hinku Valley, eventually returning to Lukla for the flight back to Kathmandu.
With Best Route Trek Nepal, the Baruntse Expedition is fully supported by experienced Sherpa guides, structured acclimatization, and strong safety management. This expedition is best undertaken in the spring (April–May) and autumn (October–November) seasons for the most stable conditions.
